๐งพWhat is a GST Invoice and What Must It Contain?
A GST invoice is a document issued by a registered GST taxpayer for the supply of goods or services. It is the primary document used to claim Input Tax Credit (ITC) โ so getting it right matters both for compliance and for your buyers who need it for their own tax filings.
Under GST law in India, a tax invoice must contain: the supplier's name, address and GSTIN; invoice number and date; the recipient's name and GSTIN (for B2B transactions); description and HSN/SAC code of goods or services; quantity and rate; taxable value and applicable GST rate; CGST and SGST amounts for intra-state, or IGST for inter-state; place of supply; and the signature of the authorized person.
This generator handles all of that automatically. You fill in the details, it builds the correctly structured invoice, calculates the taxes, and generates a clean PDF ready to send to your client or attach to your accounting records.

๐กCGST vs SGST vs IGST โ When to Use Which
- CGST + SGST (Intra-state): When the seller and buyer are in the same state. GST is split equally between Central GST and State GST. For example, on an 18% GST item, 9% goes to CGST and 9% to SGST.
- IGST (Inter-state): When the seller and buyer are in different states, or for exports. The entire GST goes as Integrated GST. An 18% item attracts 18% IGST โ not split.
- HSN Code: Harmonized System of Nomenclature โ required for goods. Businesses with turnover above โน5 Cr must show 6-digit HSN; โน1.5โ5 Cr need 4-digit; below โน1.5 Cr can use 2-digit or skip for B2C.
- SAC Code: Services Accounting Code โ required for services instead of HSN. For example, 998314 for IT services, 996311 for hotel accommodation.
